As the name suggests, in this format a competitor gets two lives. After the initial seedings and the first round, a winner’s bracket and loser’s bracket is generated.
The losers from every winner’s round is slotted into the loser’s bracket, while losers from the loser’s bracket are eliminated.

Double elimination occurs up to main semifinal stages, at which point the losers go to a third place playoff, better known as the bronze medal match.
